Naturopaths are not so interested in offering a prescription for a diagnosed disease. They are more interested in prescribing a range of suitable things for the person who is ill. Usually orthodox medicine has a specific treatment protocol / medicine for a specific diagnosis of a disease. But naturopaths may offer different prescriptions depending on HOW the person is coping with a disease. They don't focus so much on the pathology, but usually consider all relevant things affecting the patient - the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects, ie the "holistic" health of their patient, before they prescribe. For example, a patient may have a cough, which orthodox medicine might typically treat with a cough suppressant. But a naturopath would have a different prescription for each of the following very different people with a cough:
So it needs to be understood that there is not one naturopathic prescription for any one health condition. And there certainly isn't only one medicine / remedy for any one condition (the pharmaceutical manufacturer's dream!) So why does this site Script It offer one prescription for any condition? Well, if you want to self help, before you decide to consult a health professional, there are always some general sensible steps you can take. This site sets out these general steps as a "naturopathic prescription" for the most common conditions. You will find on this site that in every condition, the medicines / remedies suggested are only a small part of the prescription, and are general suggestions only. Important: if you do not get any better from your self help, even if it is only a slight cough, it is very important that you consult a qualified health professional for advice. Once you get that professional advice, you are better informed and you can then decide what you want to do. Here's to your health ! David Wilson
