Type 2 diabetes checklist

am I at risk?

Diabetes is the fastest growing non-infectious disease in the world. For every person who has been diagnosed with diabetes there is another person who has it and doesn't know.

If you tick one or more of the following, you are at risk of Type 2 diabetes and you need to make an appointment with your doctor for a fasting blood glucose test.

[   ] I am over 55 years of age
[   ] I am over 45 years of age AND I am overweight
[   ] I am over 45 years of age AND I have an immediate family member with Type 2 diabetes
[   ] I am over 35 years AND I am from an Aboriginal, Torres Strait Island, Pacific Island, Indian subcontinent, or Chinese cultural background

[   ]

I have heart disease or have had a heart attack
[   ] I had diabetes when I was pregnant (gestational diabetes)
[   ] I have impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG)
[   ] I have polycystic ovary syndrome AND I am overweight

If any of the above applies to you then you are at risk of diabetes. Please see your doctor straight away for a fasting blood glucose test.
