Soluble fiber

Soluble fiber forms a gel in the intestine, slowing absorption. This is of particular benefit to people with bowel problems and diabetics. Prolonged ingestion can decrease serum choleresterol levels.

per 100 g of edible portion
Peanuts 6.4 g
Whole wheat bread 6.0 g
Kidney beans, white beans 5.7 g
Fresh pears 5.0 g
Peas 4.5 g
Corn (cooked) 4.3 g
Potatoes (with skin) 2.5 g

Nevertheless, people suffering from bowel problems need to first ascertain whether any of these foods can aggravate their condition, and so limit or avoid them
